From Pessimistic to Optimistic: The Yankees’ 2024 Playoff Outlook

Baseball Reference Predicts Yankees to End Season in Last Place

The Yankees’ playoff chances in 2024 are not looking optimistic, according to the stat analysts over at Baseball Reference. They project the team to have a mere 2.7 percent chance of making it to the postseason and winning only 71.6 games, which is worse than both the Pirates and Ohtani-less Angels. These projections stand in stark contrast to Fangraphs, who predict the Yankees to win an impressive 88 games, good for fourth place in all of baseball.

However, BetRivers Sportsbook is even more optimistic about the Yankees’ chances, projecting them to win a whopping 91.5 games and have the third-best odds of winning the most games in baseball at +650. In addition to this, BetRivers also gives the Yankees a 77.01 percent chance of making it into the playoffs.

Despite these pessimistic projections, there are several factors that could turn things around for the Yankees in 2024. For one thing, their recent offseason acquisitions include Juan Soto, who should greatly improve their offense. Additionally, if Aaron Judge can stay healthy and play a full season, he has a chance to turn things around from their disappointing 2023 season and help lead his team back into contention for postseason success.
